John Williams is one of the most popular and successful American orchestral composers of the modern age.
“Celebrating John Williams” features a tour-de-force live concert of the legendary composers unforgettable movie themes, including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Jaws and many more.
Played by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and conducted virtuously by Gustavo Dudamel, who just yesterday received a Star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood complemented with a speech by his friend John Williams.
The bonds between composer John Williams and the Los Angeles Philharmonic reach farther back than anyone might imagine. The film composer first conducted the orchestra in July 1978 at the Hollywood Bowl, in the aftermath of the Oscar-winning success of his music for Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Lots of soundtracks for box-office hits followed: Jaws (1975), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) Schindler’s List (1993) Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), Hook (1991), Jurassic Park (1993), The Force Awakens (2015) – to name just a few…
The album marks the start of a broad partnership between LA Philharmonic and Deutsche Grammophon, announced earlier this year prior to the Oscar's ceremony
